The Work
Many of the paintings evolve from research into, or direct visits to places affected by the events of WW1 and WW2.
The textured surfaces of the work often contain found material collected in situ, which could range from fragments of rusted shrapnel or relic water bottle to perhaps earth from the battlefields.
These would be combined with a variety of conventional artist’s materials, as well as diverse elements such as sand, plaster, wax and leather.
The paintings pass through many stages in their creation, allowing for an unhurried combination of careful thought and spontaneity.
